His aim as a painter is not to capture the landscape, but to celebrate the place he is painting instead. Photography and drawing play a pivotal role in the developmental process of his paintings. On visits to new and familiar places he sketches, makes notes (such as tide times, sea state, weather conditions and OS map ref) and takes photographs that later influence a series of small works on paper before producing larger paintings. ..

The willow dips into the water

....The dynamic shapes and the way that light plays across the land has always been a huge inspiration for his work. Barry’s coastal paintings are inspired by the exciting lines, shapes and textures that he sees when walking the beautiful coast path along the South Devon coast. Born: Plymouth 1982
