The French Connection
Fred Yates and Derek Holland
France has long provided inspiration and spiritual refuge for English artists. Often disillusioned by English life, many were drawn to the countryside of France where there was an abundance of colour, an air of excitement and a promise of coming alive. Derek Holland and Fred Yates were two such artists. They each spent a great deal of time away from the coast of Devon and Cornwall - where they knew each other through the Newlyn Society and New Street Gallery - and instead living and painting in remote rural areas in Brittany and Provence. This exhibition celebrates their love for France in their own distinctive style - wild vibrant colours and textures for Yates and softer hues and marks for Holland.
This exhibition provides a super opportunity to acquire work by these two highly regarded artists at very affordable prices.
