Jeremy Davies Sculpture

Jeremy’s inspiration for his bird sculptures began from admiring the movement of birds. The challenge is to capture grace, poise and movement which he often express by creating birds in flight, about to strike their prey or hovering over their nest...

He first creates his desired shape using a metal armature upon which he steadily builds up the form using resin mixed with china clay and glass fibre for strength. It is a slow process requiring a great deal of patience and attention to detail. The final step is to carefully polish the piece by hand. The varying composition allows for shades of transparency and subtle textural effects which helps to create a translucent finish, similar to alabaster. Jeremy works in his studio on his farm in South Devon.
