A graduate in Civil Engineering from King’s College, London John changed to work as a dairy farmer in West Wales and by 1973 was successfully milking a herd of 60 cows. An accident forced a change of career and he has been painting ever since. John paints in oil and watercolour, and also makes prints both relief and intaglio on his Rochat Press.

His subjects are varied but, reflecting his particular love and knowledge of the land, are mostly traditional English landscapes. John has exhibited at the Royal Academy, The Royal Society of British Artists, and the Contemporary Portrait Society. He has also exhibited at the Royal West of England Academy in Bristol and in the Laing Landscape Competition. He was a member of the Batch Society of Artists and was selected for the Festival de Peinture in Aix-en-Provence 1990. John strives to make each painting better than the last and recently has been combining landscape with seascape and sunrise along the south coast of Devon.
